I'm very excited having just received in the mail a Rossioglossum Rawdon Jester of nice size with big spike ready to pop!

Being a bit new to this I hope I didn't make mistake. I realize when some orchids are in spike you don't want to repot then but wait till after.
This orchid looked fantastic with great big pseudo bulbs etc but loose in the pot of bark. Loose like I could lift it out so I did and the root system was mostly soft and not as healthy. The orchid was showing some root tips just starting to grow out the sides so I chose to repot in bark and hope it will be happy enough to open the blooms on the spike. There was a little moss on the roots but I felt maybe that kept it too wet?

Anyway do you think I did ok for the plant?

Thanks

I think that you did the right thing. With new roots starting, they'll establish in the new medium quickly. And probably not even affect the spike. I have found that much of the time, once the spike has moved into is "bloom pattern" that it acts like it is almost independent of what else is going on with roots as long as it's getting hydration.
