Catesetum- flowering now
Default Catesetum- flowering now

I was given a catesetum two years ago without knowing what it was. So with a little dumb luck and research I managed to get it to flower this year. Except the buds are opening up now in the middle of December. Is this common and should I continue watering? It has been on a reduced water schedule since the beginning of November but am wobbling on continuing the reduced water or cutting off completely.
I saw the videos by Isarcus and they were great! But I cant find information about flowering during dormancy.

Congratulations on the flowering Bob. Take a look at the leaves. If the leaves are still green and not going yellow, then just continue along with whatever you had been doing with watering.

Regarding your question of - is this common. I think the answer to that is - when growing orchids away from the usual regions that they were found (natively), then whatever the plants do will be influenced by their environment and growing conditions - in the place where-ever they end up in the world. So this behaviour could be common or expected in the place where it is now growing. And indeed this behaviour is often encountered by catasetum growers.
