bobcat, that is some seriously impressive root growth. Don't think I have seen anything as prolific but now it's stuck lol. How to free those roots...

Clawhammer, mastery at work. That is enviously beautiful. But I hear ya on repotting them. I had one attach itself to the wall recently. Had to pry the roots off before I could move the orchid. Yours look stuck all over

Good question. I've read plenty of posts about repotting that say "It is not super important to get all of the old media out of the roots, just get what you can". Does the same apply to removing the old pot out of the roots?
All joking aside...
I haven't decided yet whether to repot this year or not. The plant has been in that pot for 11 months now, and there is a lot of moss in that mix. As vigorous as that root system is, I assume that if I repot when the next new growth is rooting, it will replace what it loses when I free it from its current situation.

I'd just cut the pot to the extent that it can be done without slicing roots. Then repot into something larger. Then any new roots have an escape route, but you don't have to sacrifice the existing ones.

great root Sade.

My aerides produces really thick ones and I showed it before when it was just waking up, now it is going into turbo mode (even if it is snail paced turbo mode )

I know my camera overexposed this root, it looks like I pained it white, and it is hard to see what is going on. Like usual I am trying to get the latest root to grow down into the vase. My first attempt of causing an obstruction made the root grow up not down! So after painstakingly bending the root back down I hope this one doesn't decide to grow up again.

There is also a new nubbin poking out from the leaf axil on the left.

Shade- that is a very clever idea!

if you are concerned you can also make a sling out of burlap or any organic cloth and drape it over the root and add a small and very light rock or something to gently weight the root down....then mist it many times a day....as it gets supple from the moisture and the gentle pulling will train it not to straighten back out.

avoid using nylons or anything that you dont want the root to attach to
