Orchids in movies
Default Orchids in movies

I have been puzzled for some time why a thread with provocative name “root porn” found its place in the advanced discussions. I hope that observation somehow justifies my attempt to find a place for a playful(I hope) topic of orchids and their depiction in cinematography.

It is interesting if not laughable at times what people show as gorgeous orchid species in movies.

If you come across a movie or other depiction of an orchid that does not make any sense, please bring it to this post.

To moderators: please feel free to move or delete this post if find it inappropriate for OB.
Sincerely,
Your fellow member.

If you were to guess …. this is Cattleya Trianae in the detective series ‘Astrid’.

Unfortunately TV news is mostly like this, too.

Yep, i've noted orchids a few times in movies. I'm trying to think of the name of a very old black and white classic movie I saw years ago that starts with an old man in a wheelchair sitting in his 'hothouse' surrounded by blooming cattleyas. (wow) It's an old 'gangster movie' and has car chase etc. in it Name escapes me.

More recently, netflix has a series called 'Little Women' running. It has nothing to do with Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" which you may have had to read in High school. It's a Korean produced series. The "Blue Ghost" orchid plays a semi-prominent role in this suspence drama. The Blue Ghost is not even a dyed phal. It's an artificial, contrived plant/bloom that is bright indigo blue, and is grown in multiples secretly hanging on a 'tree.' If you receive one, you are a goner. There are other real orchids at times in the series. Also, there is a scene in which there is an orchid auction and a scene which takes place a the International Orchid Society meeting.

Cheers,
Maryanne

These black and white characters are one and the same Mr. Nero Wolfe the orchid enthusiast and a very talented detective.
