Cattleya Root Mess Female
Default Oncostele Red Silk 'HOF' Root Mess

Hi all. Not certain of what to do with this. Arrived from dealer several weeks ago in a pot that was obviously too small.

This is what I found on removal of pot. It was started in this pot in only sphagnum, which is fully incorporated in the central section.

I just plunked into a larger pot and put rePotme Cattleya media around the outside and gave it a shot of water. Anyway, to get the old moss out of there? Doesn't seem the appropriate media for a Cattleya.

Thanks, Rebekah

That's not a Cattleya. The roots are too fine. Looking up the label, it's an Oncostele, a complex Oncidium hybrid. I would not disturb the roots at all. They need to stay moist at all times. Consider repotting into fine bark, without disturbing the roots.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll remove the newly added cattleya mix and add some sphagnum.
