It's actually too big to fit in my trash bin... :hmm haha
I'll admit that all the new growths are cool enough. |
so this is not the typical new growth porn pic.
i got this plant at the Miami show in January...i grabbed a few plants from this grower and there was bin of bare root catts and myr hybrids and i was looking in and the guy says, "those are back divisions and older unsold divisions, take one if you want a project" so i grabbed the least ratty one and did not have high hopes...i tried a few things to make it comfortable but given how small it was i could not balance the light with out getting it scorched so i figured...SH!!! it basically just dragged along bottom for a while but yesterday i noticed some new color and i got closer to see 8 new grows!!! tiny and weak but POPPIN!!! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ad10483_4k.jpgGreen stuff by J Solo, on Flickr |

My Holco dropped 3 of 6 leaves and I was getting a little worried despite previous excellent root growth...
It was just gearing up to put out a big new root, a flower spike (under root) and four basal keikis. Great plant |
not the typical growth pic for this thread but, still worth sharing.
my neighbor down the block was throwing away some coconuts and a few had sprouted and the tallest was maybe 1' from the coconut. I planted it on the one month "birthday" of my daughter (random, i just remember the day) so it is 4 years and 2 months old...give or take a day or two. well over 12' now and giving me a new area to grow more orchid underneath her https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2bf0a643_c.jpgSpikes and other nice things by J Solo, on Flickr this area used to just be for storage and schoms but now i can keep more genus out here too |

I started this thread with a story about C. (actually Cattlianthe) Penang 'Black Ceasar'.
In November I purchased a plant for my own collection, which had just finished blooming on 3 leads. Over the winter/spring, it grew 5 new growths, which in turn are in the process of producing 8 more new growths. Thus, come November, I can look forward to this plant blooming on 13 pseudobulbs. It is a great plant if you want to grow a specimen size plant, but it is not small. The parents are C. Nigrella x Guarianthe bowringiana, so it grows about 18-20" tall. |
