You are better off IGNORING them completely. For one thing, when you respond, they get confirmation that you really exist and then you can expect more spam.
Once upon a time several years ago I was a member of a group dedicated to Photoshop. There was a spammer that was always trying to sell web addresses where you could supposedly get Photoshop free. He was very annoying but for some reason (maybe the type of site) no one could get rid of him. I, unfortunately, made a comment about his activities thinking to help the effort to get him to move on. In retaliation he sold (or gave) my email addy to porn spammers.
Is there a lesson there?
Of course, on this forum, if the mods can restrict them then I feel protected.

We do ignore them , and report them to the mods.. I think what is going on is a spam Bot . not a real person .

I agree that it's probably best to ignore them publicly, but click the 'report post' or the 'infraction' button on their posts. That way the moderators are alerted and come and remove it.

The ones we get hit with most are almost certainly a spam bot though.

At least on this forum email addresses are hidden. Any retaliation through PM's/your account here can alsobe reported to the moderators.

I'm starting to get sick of the spammers myself. Guess the only thing we can do is report their posts as soon as we see them.

We try to remove all spam as quickly as possible...
and we depend on our membership to alert us (the mods/admin).

In the upper right corner of every post, you'll see a little icon with a red flagand a yellow flag together...and there's also a red triangle just to the right of that. When you see spam, click on one of those. It will send out a notice to us...it will temporarily ban the spammer from adding anything additional and then the mods can go in and remove all the posts and permanenetly ban them.

We have a fantastic relationship here...as long as we all keep an eye open and report what we don't like, OB will continue to be the best orchid forum EVER!!!

I noticed today that spammers are actually responding to our legit posts with spam ads. UGH! I reported one already.

Yes, I have noticed that there are a few that are controlled by humans, (ex. not the abc1234 ones, which are automated spam bots) So we are going to have to be more careful, as in reporting the post if it looks like spam, instead of giving infractions. Of course, if it is obviously spam, then slice away and give an infraction!

sorry to be so naive, but what exactly do you mean by "spam". i dont want to be part of it and i hope i dont get flagged for doing so unintentionally. in another forum, they consider spam responding to a post about something irrelevant to what the authors posting, or starting a new thread that was been made already/ making it in the wrong forum, OR when someone posts ads or links in their response trying to sell something or mess with your computer. lplease shine some light on this. thanks
