I love your plants, Kristin. The selection, the arrangement, the pots - everything is just beautiful. You're a great artist with the camera, too - and the artistry is reflected in your setup.

OK I just did a post on my blog about my current in spike/bud/bloom and a photo of my newest orchid. I got a gift card from OL and had such a hard time deciding which to get!! I got a Alcra. Hilo Ablaze 'Hilo Gold' HCC/AOS because I don't have orangeish blooms yet and he flowers more then once a year! Check it out!!

Great info, great pictures, and excellent growing. I started on windowsills many years ago, so it's nice to see what others are doing.

Beautiful collection of orchids u have. Can I ask have u been successful I having new blooms? And what do u do when ur orchids blooms fall off? I never know where to cut. I was once told cut all the way down and my orchid after 4 years never came back.

All my phals (well aside from the three I got in the last few months) have all re-bloomed. The others the one still hasn't and the newer ones haven't been around enough yet to bloom. If that one won't bloom in august I'm going to get rid of it. It last bloomed in 2010 and I really hate to say it but I'm losing my patience with it. I'd like to see if someone else can do better so it'll be gone. I have a few I worry about that I got in Oct, they sent out some new roots, then stopped. Nothing new. The one should be getting ready to spike soon, but transplanting it may have made it sulk (the psychopsis) But a lot of my newer ones are summer bloomers, so we'll see in the next few months if they send out a spike.

What kind of orchid did you cut? I try to wait untilt hey turn brown like people suggest, but I cut my phals down when they drop their last bloom. I just cut my dendrobium down this week and he hasn't had a bloom since christmas. I just thought it was time. I worry that they may send energy into the spike when it should be going towards root growth. With the psychopsis his spike won't get cut until it turns very brown and crispy since he blooms on the same spike for years.

Getting excited!!! The anniversary of our first date was last week. I had talked to my husband about going to the NYBG orchid show this year, then somehow just forgot about it. Well he surprised me with tickets and said I can buy a plant and see what else they have in the gift shop for the rest of my gift! I'm so excited! We've never been to the botanical gardens before, so I can't wait! Is anyone else locally going? This year the theme seems less "strict" so I'm hoping they have a good showing!
