I may just do that! I had a problem with a house plant I got from them and they gave me a free bottle of fungicide worth about $12! Very nice of them!

Here is my new orchid!

OK, so i went back to look at the orchids with the dying flowers and didn't like the two I saw the last time I was there. They looked fairly damaged and bruised. Buuuuuuttt I did see a great cattleyea with no flowers or spike even. I asked the lady working in the greenhouse if they discount orchids that won't bloom until next summer. She said sure and marked it off 50%!!! Yeah!!! But I posted in another thread that it was severely root bound and had barely any medium. It was rotted and broke in half so I potted both halves (and one little piece in a vase like someone suggested). Both halves seem to be doing well as of today, I think it's been about 2 weeks now. Neither are wilting or rotting or anything. One I think even has a bit of a bright green stumpy thing which I am assuming is new leaf growth!

I plan on going back in a couple months (depending on money as it's getting very tight!) to see what they have. They have a late winter flower show and always stock up on orchids since it's feb/mar when many are in bloom. I can't wait!

Oh I forgot I wanted to post this here too! My husband's family came down on Sunday to celebrate Christmas and they all LOVED my orchids! Since two stayed home due to not feeling well I didn't have to move the display so I used it for some decoration. Everyone commented on how cool it looked! Here's a photo!

In determination to keep this thread going so we can maybe get a section for windowsills...

We went to the grocery store the other day and found a few mini-phals! All looked super healthy and nice! Not being a fan of the minis I just had to buy one! ha ha! There were two that I really wanted, but settled for just one. I may go back or I may check out our garden center to see what they have for the holidays.

The one I left behind was a butter yellow with w tinge of green and a nice spotting of magenta. The one I came home with was magenta. I picked this over the other due to it's second spike instead of the single spike on the other. I'll post a photo later.

I still really want that cymbidium but they're too expensive right now. We're trying to pay off our debt for when I lose my job. But we're also trying to buy a few things we wont' be able to afford like orchids. They'll give me something to do and bring joy to my days at home.

With the longer nights in full swing here how is everyone doing with the windowsill growing? It's been fairly cloudy here so my sheer curtain is always open. We've had two days of sun, so I'm letting them soak it up! Everyone seems happy. My new "project" catt that was so root bound is ding well. He has two new growths! the cuttings are just staying the same, which I guess is better then dying on me!

I have my three older phals all in spike! the other two were recently bought in bloom and seem to be handling the change to our house well. Everyone else seems fine Not much new growth, some roots here and there. But this time of year I don't expect too much.

I agree ! Lets get one.
Cultural conditions are a lot different to those under lights. Both actually warrant their own sub-sectons.

I would love to see a windowsill forum, I only have one window to grow orchids from all winter, its a south facing window in my sun room, the rest of the year it gets way too much sun for orchids, it becomes my cactus room in the summer with window on 3 sides of the room getting sun from morning till later after noon
