Congratulations on your new orchids! I have never ordered from H&R but I have heard great things about the quality of orchids they send.

Group orders are a great way to get discounts on shipping.

I like the idea of having the post office hold the order. That would work well for those of us who have cold winters.

I don't know whether the post office will hold packages. FedEx definitely will do so.

USPS offers a service called "Hold for Pickup." I do believe you have to pay for it and it has to be made when the shipping label is created.

Alternatively, you could call your local PO and talk to your Postmaster or carrier. Unless they are real sticklers for the rules, most will happily hold a package for you to retrieve at the PO. We do it at my PO without a fuss if a customer requests it.

Placed another order with H&R after their fall/winter release and, I gotta say, they have quickly become one of my favorite vendors. I picked up my second Cattleya walkeriana (my first one is doing great and I think getting ready to bloom!!), some other Cattleya species- a nobilior, aclandiae, luteola, and amethystoglossa; I thought I hated catts and have finally come to realize that I am totally in love with species ones.. Also some dens I had been eyeballing like the smilliae, hodgkinsonii, macrophyllum, tangerinum, and a super cool little Inobulbon munificum. I also picked up two Encyclias, a phoenicea and a adenocaule, to try my hand at.

The most exciting of the bunch was the bulbophylum sumatranum and the den. farmeri. Both are in 3.5” pots. Both were $15. Both are MASSIVE! The leaves on the bulbo are about 8” and have fully mature, super fat pbulbs; the farmeri is 20” tall with huge, chunky canes. I was not expecting either of these to be even a third of the size I received them in, so that was great

So, yep.. another stellar order from H&R. I’m hooked

We have some decent vendors in Europe, but when I read these posts about H&R, I've massively jealous! Don't get me wrong, I get top notch plants here, but nowhere near the size (for a similar price) of what H&R sells.

Any photos of your new haul?

To tell you the truth, I am still shocked about the size and price of these plants. Some are definitely very young like that darling little baby Cattleya nobilior in the first photo (its next to the Sophronitis cernua that is in bud) but they are still larger than expected. Most of them-like all of the dens, the bulbo and the walkeriana- are quite a bit larger than I expected to see for the pot size. I think I am most excited about growing these cattleya species! Unboxing this was like being 5 years old on Christmas morning.
