Default H&R

Members of our orchid society just received our group order from H&R. Really nice healthy plants! We got a nice discount because a good number of us ordered a fair number of plants. One of our club members arranges a group order every time H&R puts out a new list.

A lot of plants arrived in flower or bud by surprise, inlcuding five of mine: Dendrobium Little Atro x atroviolaceum, Den. Micro Chip, Den. Super Ise, Den. unicum and Encyclia bractescens x Boricana. I saw lots of Dendrobium flowers in other people's boxes at the plant pickup feeding frenzy.

My Dendrobium Samarai (stratiotes x antennatum), in a 3.25" / 8cm pot, supposedly near blooming size, has not only flowered in the past, but has tiny bumps on some of the canes. I also ordered seedlings of other very large growing Dendrobium sections Latouria, Phalaenanthe and Spatulatum hybrids because I have room.

I will be working with them now so won't have time to take photos, but I will before long.

I've ordered several plants from them and also received plants in flower and with unopened buds every time when I was expecting to get small, near blooming size plants. Getting ready to place another order with them when the weather gets a little warmer around here.

Well, my order ships tomorrow. I also got the Encyclia and micro chip...I think. Great minds. I'll look tomorrow.

Default Encyclia bractescens x boricana, H&R 21772

As mentioned above, this arrived in spike. I've been threatening to post photos; here they are. H&R also sells the reciprocal of this cross.

It is in a 3.25" / 5.25cm pot. It has a very strong, sweet fragrance when it is warm in the sunroom. I usually like strong, sweet fragrances a lot, but this one not much. I still like the plant very much. I will repot after it finishes blooming; it's stretching the pot.

Mine had no scent when we had cool, cloudy weather. Now that it is warm in the sunroom (at least 80s F / 26-32C), and sun shines right on the plant through the window in the morning, it is fragrant.
