I agree with Ray, but there are how many administrators and one takes it as their responsibility to delete the whole conversation? That's pretty high-handed in my view. Not sure I'll be back.

The moderator apologised. It was a mistake. Get over it. The hand wringing should stop. I've been a member for years and in the handful of instances where there was conflict, the moderator/s did what was expected and was careful not to show bias. They have my vote of confidence.........even when dredging up ancient threads to get participation going.🐘

It's true, I did apologize and acknowledge I chose the wrong way to close out a thread. I can't believe how unforgiving and ungracious some people are when a person admits to a mistake and apologises.

For what its worth, earlier today I PM'd Marty (the administrator) and asked for his assistance and if there was any hope of restoring the thread. At this point I haven't heard from him. I rather doubt I will hear from him or any administrator. I made attempts to contact him when there was such a problem with this forum being so slow and never heard anything.

Someone asked how I became a moderator. I was asked by Marty and several other senior moderators and agreed to do it simply because they needed more. I never wanted to be one and it certainly is a thankless job.

So on that note, I am resigning as a moderator and am likely quite done with actively participating on Orchid Board. I will acknowledge there are plenty of wonderful people on here and I have made some personal friends from this forum.

I have to laugh. Tomorrow is our orchid meeting and as we don't have a speaker, the topic of our presentation is the many wonderful forums out there for orchid lovers to join and be a part of. I am one of several members who will speak a bit about the forums and Orchid Board was my go to forum and my topic for tomorrow. I will read what I prepared prior to this incident happening as I know the true Orchid Board is more enjoyable than what I have been reading on this thread today.

Silken, I also give you my vote of confidence. An error doesn't define a person nor his work. Their actions after it, does.

Years ago there was a "similar" thread dealing with the AOS; discussion got heated and the comments (pro & con) were pretty intense. One of the MODs, Dorothy I think, suspended the thread--I don't know that it was deleted, just that it was frozen; those who participated in posting to the thread were asked to cool their heads for a time. Silken, thank you for being a moderator; I look forward to your continued learning the angles of the "job".
While I agree that the discussion could have been dealt with in other ways, what's passed is done. Move forward. Just my 2¢,
Adam
