Default Big Leaf Orchids and Seattle Orchid

Big Leaf Orchids and Seattle Orchid are my go to vendors lately. I mail order from Big Leaf and go directly to Seattle Orchid. So I can't comment on Seattle Orchid as far as shipping goes. I've gotten beautiful plants from both. But more important to me as a newbie is how much time they take out to help me with my new orchid and or recommend orchids for my conditions.

Every time I go into Seattle Orchid the staff is fantastic. Especially the owner (I can't for the life of me remember his name). My husband and I spend 2 hours at least talking with him.

Peter at Big Leaf Orchids always is fantastic. My latest order which I just paid for today was for phals that I couldn't find on his website or eBay. So I shot him an email. He took the time out to search his greenhouse for what I was looking for. Sent me a bunch of pictures. And answered all my care questions.

They both have been fantastic.

I just happened to get an order from Seattle Orchids today. Both plants arrived in great shape, carefully packed.

Seattle orchids is nice. If you order over a hundred dollars (I think that is what it is), shipping is free! I just did my first order from them not too long ago and, yes, the plants were very nice.

I haven't tried the other vendor. Someday, though. They have a great reputation, too.

Peter at Big Leaf is AWESOME...as are his plants.

And, if you ever get a chance to hear him speak, you won't be disappointed. He's very knowledgeable and interesting...and he's super funny too.

Seattle Orchid also does a 'rescue' orchid thing where if you buy more than a certain amount (30$ or 50$). You can get a rescue orchid for 5$. That has something wrong with it that makes it unsellable at its going price. I haven't done it personally, I don't think I have the skill to rehab an orchid. But I thought it was cool.

I just got my first miniature from him and a Phalaenopsis violacea. I think it has a spike poking through. It's very...pointy. Doesn't look like a root.

That does kinda look like a spike to me. Right spot and pointed up!

I can also attest to both vendors being awesome!
