Default Orchids Vendors in USA

Dear All,

Once more, it was evident during the latest Members Projects that having a list of nurseries and vendors for each major region would be beneficial for everybody. We have indeed a short list of nurseries for which we know that can be trusted, but this is far for complete.

Therefore, I decided to propose some threads (probably a forum admin or moderator can stick them to the beginning of this section of the forum!?)

The rules are simple:
  1. Use one thread per region!
  2. Add ONLY vendors for which you have good experience buying from them, or the people you know have godo experience. NOTE: at least 2 or 3 orders should have been done from each vendor!
  3. If you add a new vendor, please explain briefly your experience with it.
  4. Good vendors do not necessarily need to be cheap! This would depend on many factors, and the list is not intended ONLY for the projects!
  5. PLEASE add the link to the website!

Please, DO NOT use this thread for vendors review. We have a whole section of the forum for that.

ONLY add vendors with a brief feedback from your side!!

To start the list, here the USA Vendors from which I have ordered in the past and with which I have always been very satisfied with the service. These might not be the cheapest vendors, but they have great plants (and come to Europe from time to time )

Orchids Limited
Orchid Inn, Ltd.
Sunset Valley Orchids <- not coming to Europe, but sometimes the previous vendor bring plants from them: top class Catasetinae!
Firstrays <- needs no presentation in this forum

Here's a few I like that haven't been mentioned yet, not sure if any go to EU. I'll try to keep my editorializing relevant to the topic of this thread...

Marble Branch Farms: small grower specializing in compact Laeliinae hybrids but also have lots of mini species of various genera from their own and other labs; members of my local society so I purchase from them several times per year. Very friendly and approachable people.

H&R Nurseries: never ordered directly but I've gotten their excellent seedlings from several other nurseries including the above ^. Harry occasionally posts to this forum and is both knowledgeable and nice; I highly doubt you could go wrong ordering from them. For project purposes they might be a good single-source vendor for all US participants.

Piping Rock Orchids: specialize in Paphs and Phrags incl. kovachii, but also have an interesting selection of Den, Bulbo, and other unusual species and hybrids. Not the cheapest around but quality and size of plants seem uniformly very good for the price. Edit: have purchased twice, once mailorder and once a preorder when Glen came to speak to my society; great plants both times.

Parkside Orchids: specialize in Paphs esp. Parvisepalum spp. and hybrids, but a good selection of other genera (incl. Dens, Angraecoids, Pleurothallids, etc.) with much more than is listed on their website. Only purchased once but it was during a visit to their nursery; large, robust plants for the price and one of the cleanest greenhouse ranges of the 20-something commercial operations I've visited.

I'll try to think of some other places that particularly impressed me. Great thread idea, Ramón, should help out a lot with future projects!

I think your idea is great Ramon, and we could make these lists (for each "region") into google searches to ease the process of looking for a plant (it has been done already, but not with the same approach including the quality of the business)

For Paphs and Phrags:
Windy Hill Gardens Homepage Marilyn LeDoux has been hybridizing for years. Her list hasn't been updated in over a year - but I write to her with my wish list - have many plants from her.
Flasks by Chuck Acker Renowned hybridizer offers mostly flasks. But also offers divisions of his breeding stock and awarded plants periodically throughout the year.
For species: Tropical Orchid Farm located in Hawaii, have purchased from them for years
colombian orchid imports Gary Meyer organizes orders several times a year from two vendors in Colombia (remember Colomborquideas Ltda?)
