Question Santa Barbara Orchid Estate?

I'm wondering what everyone's experiences have been with this vendor. I've been hesitant to buy from them because their webpage says they quarantine orders destined to Florida for a month. In instances such as those, does one pay for the plants before or after the quarantine period? I'm kinda impatient when it comes to incoming orders. I don't think I'd be able to wait a whole month. The suspense would give me a heart attack.

They have many plants that have been on my wish list for a long time.

The best thing would be to contact them directly about their Florida shipping policies.

SBOE is a highly reputable company and I would not have a problem buying from them. I visited there last December and was thoroughly enthralled with all the Laelias and Cymbidiums in bloom.

I would check with them too. Their plants are awesome, and the girl I talked to on the phone was very pleasant and helpful.

I have bought from them in the past and would not hesitate buying from them again. I think Maria, peeweelovesbooks, recently got a Laelia from them. You might PM her.

For you, I think you'll be very pleased with the plants you're getting for the price you pay in terms of plants belonging to Zygopetalinae.

I got Pescatorea coronaria from them, and I didn't have a problem with it. Bloomed for me too.

Of course I cherry picked it out of the bunch too (not that the rest were any less better).

Thanks everyone. I'm not so hesitant now, but I'll be sure to inquire about their shipping policies.

Actually, it was the pescatoreas that first drew me to them. They have some great zygo hybrids, too. Kind of ironic that you mention P. coronaria, because that was the very plant that drew me to them. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

They're blooming sized adults with multiple growths in one pot (and I'm not talking about just three growths - when I say multiple, I mean pot busting multiple).

Same goes for Pescatorea cerina.

I don't know why Pescatorea coronaria would be that difficult to get a hold of. They're pretty hardy for the Zygopetalinae group. Got nice color too.

I love Pescatorea coronaria for its color and hairy lip. Kinda looks like a beard.

I don't get it...

L. anceps is a cake walk. This is usually not a very problematic orchid for growers of all levels.

Spring/summer is growing season. They can put out leads like crazy. Same goes for root growth.

Whether you'll see it bloom right away upon purchase is a different story.
