Talking My Exotic Orchids of Maui Order

My order arrived on the 14th while I was at class. My dear sweet hubby had them all carefully unpacked and waiting for me on the kitchen counter.

I don't think I could ever have been more happy with my order! The plants arrived extremely well packaged (oodles of packaging was all over the kitchen floor) and very quickly. The box had been opened up by our dept of agriculture, but they didn't disturb anything that hubby could tell. He said some of the plants had clearly been unwrapped, and then wraped back up and re-taped.

Anyhow, here is what I got:
Ascda. (Fuchs Delight x John DeBiase) 'Pauwela Sky'
Dar. Charm 'Blue Star' HCC/AOS
Den. Mem. Dipper Nishii (Arrived in spike, blooms now beginnig to open)
Den. Waianae Profusion x Den. Odom's Tourmaline
Dendrochilum bicallosum (arrived in bloom)
Max. tenuifolia x Max. sanguinea
And a freebie! Den. Thailand 'TQ Wu' x Lady Fay

I went when I saw them. And let me tell you what, the prices for these babies were incredible. I was blown away at how big and healthy the plants were. For the price, I had expected much smaller.

Here are the pictures.

They look great, Nichole!

I love the plants I get from EOoM. I just wish they hadn't initiated the $50 minimum for an order and the shipping charges have really gone up! It won't stop me form placing more orders with them but it will decrease the frequency of my orders

By the way, I got the same freebie last week!
We have siblings!!!

Yeah, I've been looking at their stuff for a while and dreaming, but the $50 minimum had kept me from ordering. But... it was an excuse to get just one more since I was just under the $50 mark! However, I do understand why they did it. The shipping was a chunk of change, but still comparable to other Hawaii growers. Even factoring in the shipping to what I paid for the plants, it was still a great deal in my eyes. They are going right to the top of my list

Siblings huh? Cool! I'll race ya to blooming!

Do you have a local friend who would split an order with you? That's what Laura and I usually do.

I don't know anyone near me who might split an order... yet that is. I went to my first meeting with a local orchid society in November, and will go to the next one on Tuesday. If I join, I'll probably be the youngest member by 40 years. Maybe I can drum up some younger folks to get involved if I do. But, there sure is a wealth of growing experience for me to tap into there. Some members were certainly more welcoming than others.

I agree 100%. I also bought Fushs Delight X John DeBaise 'Pauwala' from them last March. It hasn't bloomed yet.

Love the selection and so many at once...it must have felt like a party, unwrapping all these. Lucky, lucky YOU!!!!

I'm sure you probably know but in case you may not...the Dend. Mem. Dipper Nishii needs to be kept wetter than the other Dends. All Dends from the Latouria tribe (my favorite!), should never dry out.

Enjoy your beauties!

I've met three of my closest friends through our local orchid club. Don't be shy when you're at the meetings...folks love to talk about their orchids. Ask questions about the plants they bring in for the show table. Best case scenario, you'll make new friends who become more than just somebody you know from the club. Another scenario, you find some folks who would be interested in splitting an order. Being able to split shipping charges is a big plus

Another thought on joining the club...get involved. In my experience, I became involved in too many things and it turned into a chore, mainly because, unfortunately, all clubs have people who would rather just sit and do nothing. Choose one or two things that really interest you and have fun with it. If you ever have the opportunity to participate in a show, do it! Clerking is the best thing I ever did! I learned SO much just from listening to the judges discuss the reasons they liked or disliked a chid they were looking at.

Have fun and
