I didn't know they were on Amazon, too. The listings I saw was on Etsy.
The 'wording' in their listings felt kind of 'aggressive' to me and stopped me from ordering.

This is an example of what appears in some of their photos in their listings and it goes as follows:

"Orchid Educational Alert. Common cosmetic issues in Oncidium orchids believed to be 'problems' by inexperienced and/or know-it-all growers" And then it goes on claiming that "spots on leaves and wrinkled bulbs" shouldn't be considered an issue. Then it concludes stating: "If any of the above "problems" cause stress/worry/bad vibes, PLEASE PASS ON THIS"

I din't like how this kind of approach makes me feel, so I took their advice and I passed on their plant.

That does seem a little aggressive. Perhaps it’s meant to dissuade buyers who are less experienced growers.

My experience was buying on Amazon, which does have a return policy. But I noticed just glancing at the description, I was confused by how the plant would be shipped (potted? Bare root? Size of pot?)

The plant I did buy has been healthy and is growing nicely. BUT (here’s where I have some strong concerns) the pant I bought was a cymbidium Enzan Olive. I cannot look up this plant on orchidroots or find any other offerings for others. Surely I don’t own the only one! So, that makes me skeptical about what I purchased and what’s gonna bloom. It’s like an expensive NOID.

Live and learn.

And I just found it on orchidroots.

There is a Cymbidium that goes by that name on Orchidroots.

Cymbidium Enzan Olive

I hope this helps.

Default Thank you!

Thank you for the advice! I did end up ordering from them. Though the orchid came damaged, as if it had frozen., they were quick to replace it. And the orchid is thriving and dong well. Hopefully, it’ll bloom. Overall, im happy with them. Their owner Dean I think was emailing me throughout the process. I bought a Heaven Scent Redolence. .Excited to see how it all turns out. Thank you again for your advice!

I reviewed the terms and the condition of the plant in the description carefully prior to ordering. I had a pretty good idea of what I ordered should look like when I received it, and what I received matched the description. And that's what I find is the issue with Amazon: inadequate descriptions. If there's a description that's not clear from the seller, then I just don't buy.

I guess it's a caveat emptor or buyer beware. And if there's a plant you're liking there but can find it elsewhere, that may be a better solution for you. But if you feel that you understand the description given by Orchid Insanity, then go for it with Amazon's return policy. I didn't feel my experience was a poor one. I also have not bought another plant from them.

Thank you! After posting I thought I’d look it up, and there it was!

I didn’t want to imply that Orchid Insanity was doing anything strange. I mostly wanted to state that if something doesn’t look right on a sale of an orchid, that there are resources to check and research prior to purchase.

I think, too, as a point to newer/inexperienced buyers who are buying from an online vendor, vendors who have several storefronts (such as Amazon and their own website and etsy) seem a little more reputable than ones that have only an eBay store with few sales, for example. But I bought a few orchids from an eBay seller who was selling a few plants from his private collection. Nice plants.

Really, if it doesn’t feel right, may be worth waiting. Though if you’re able to find a plant in a store and have the same feeling, well, same advice.
