Haraella odorata *MINI*

Ok, my Haraella is doing great. Its mounted on a stick, I hung the stick in the viv, see the pics above. The humidity is always around 80% due to glass cover, water feature, and frequent atomatic mistings from Mist King's setups (those things have really fine mist, so it spreads out better and hangs in the air alot longer than any hand mister). I also have a fan which runs a few times a day for different amounts of time. Mostly early in the morning, late at night, through the night, and from 2 to 3:30 in the afternoon. The mistings are 1 min in the morning twice, and 1 at around 5. Then the fan comes on at around 6 till 1 am. So the temps top out at around 75 to 82 (depending on the wheather outside) during midday, plus the fan makes sure the orchid is nice and dry during midday and at night. I was hopping to simulate tropical wheather by doing this, nice and cool, windy and possibly wet in the morning and afternoon, and hot and dry during midday. So far so good. The plant is growing roots everywhere, and its even about to give me a new leaf. I hope it flowers soon!!

I have a Harella too, but it does not look as nice as yours! I bought it in bloom and it has put out two flowers on the same spike already. It was going to put out another flower, but I was concerned about the roots so I cut off the spike so it would concentrate on roots and leaves for a while! But now, there is ANOTHER spike coming! I know it is probably doing that because the plant is not very healthy right now. So I will probably cut off that spike too when it gets long enough. I just have mine under growing lights and I water it frequently. You seem to have a lot of humidity for your plant, and I wonder if I should increase mine. What do you think?

It does seem to like lots of humidity.
I also was worried mine might be blooming itself to death. What do you think?
Coicidently I was just about to post some more pics of it that I took today.









The vivarium in which it is in smells sooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!! Yum yum. Like sweet lemons!
But this one seems to keep growing roots. So how long before I should start cutting its blooms?
Also I have just cut down on the frequency of misitngs. Perhaps this will induce the plant to grow rather than bloom???????

Well, Tindo, it does seem happy!

Sometimes letting it do what it wants is best. If it has good leaf and root growth, blooming won't hurt it. You run into trouble when the roots and leaves are insufficient to support he flowers.

Very cool looking flower. I was toying with the idea of getting one awhile back, but I could never give it that kind of humidity. Good job!

I have this orchid. Since I have it, it has not stopped blooming, it flowers constantly, and is one of the best and most desirable orchids I own.

Tindo, looks great, healthy ... mine does not get as much humidity as yours, watered 2 x's a day mist once a day and mine keeps blooming with a double one on its way, constantly seeing new roots. It will tell you when its tired and at that time I would consider cutting back the bloom, but from what I see ... your doing a great job . In all actuality your leaves look a lot stronger than mine, but would imagine it being the difference between indoor and viv enviroment.

Thanks all, the newest leaf never really developed much since I posted this in June. Shortly after this I cut off the two spikes. The results are rather spectacular. There is an even newer leaf on its way, and and roots are growing again. However, a new spike has made its appearance as described in my post, Crazy Antics of my Little Haraella.
