Default R gigantea alba spike

Did my weekly soaking of my Vandas this morning and discover a new spike - the very first one on this plant. VERY cool. Well literally. The night temps have dropped from the mid 50s to the low 20's here over the last few days. Of course inside my sunroom is not that cold. I drop it to 57 at night. Would the weather change possibly initiate the spike?
