Semiterete vanda - it was worth the wait
Default Semiterete vanda - it was worth the wait

This was a rootless piece of vanda I picked up about 6 years ago at the Painted Church in Kealakekua, Hawaii. It took almost 3 years to finally develop roots and another 3 to put out these first blooms. Several times it developed spikes that blasted soon after appearing. This first successful bloom only had 2 flowers, and it has another spike developing. Flowers are very fragrant and long lasting. I think it was worth the wait! Orchids certainly teach us patience.

Here is another shy blooming vanda. Not too striking but has 11 flowers this time (after a 2 year absence).

Great that you got it bloom finally.
These plants (semi terete vandas) are used extensively in cut flower production and in tropical climate they can be "pushed" to bloom more often and eventually stay in bloom all the time. Looking at your plant indicates it can use more light and with that more light, more water and more fertilizer. I used to grow these in south florida and they loved full sun and daily watering and weekly feeding at 1 TBSP per gallon, this culture would get hem to bloom in just a few months after roots are established.
The second flower is a great looking vanda, excellent shape and color...
