Hi firstly I tried hanging mine but it soon grew too big, it is now still in it's basket but on a stand as the roots are growing out of the basket. Mine is planted in a mix of scoria (volcanic rock) and coconut chips. Mine is growing very well and I hope it will flower this year.

Default What's it planted in?

I have mine in a mix of chucks of tree fern bark, broken up styrofoam chunks and an artificial light weight rock like product that looks like chunks of pumice. It seems pretty happy in that, and it's very well aerated. I've noticed that the first flower spike for 2018 is starting, looking forward to a good flowering this year too

At the Tamiami Orchid Show this year I spoke to a grower who told me these need much more water and sun than Vandas. He recommended planting a rooted tip cutting almost a meter long in a large pot of coir chips, and watering every day. He said 4 hours of direct sun through a window might be enough sun to flower, but might not.

well I am doing that right as mine lives in my Vanda green house and gets a good drink everyday and fertilized every second day. It even gets a second drink in summer. it seems to be having a growth spurt since winter had kicked in a bit. We are getting over night minimums of 15 degrees Celsius . winter in Cairns is great.

Default How big was it when it first bloomed?

Well the pictures you see at the top of the post from last year was the first flowering. I've been told that this one needs a lot of sun and a lot of fertilizing. I keep it on the patio from May-November where it gets about a half day of direct and dappled sun.

STUNNING! I picked one up at Redlands this year. About a foot tall. Hanging in my lanai, on east side. Gets morning sun through the screens until about 11AM. I am in SW FL. She seems happy.
