My First Rhynchostylis in Bloom
Default My First Rhynchostylis in Bloom

I bought this late summer and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it spiking in the late fall.

It came as a bare root with a basket.
The poor thing only had three thick roots.
I potted it up in a large (6 inch) mesh pot with sphagnum moss to encourage root growth, and been growing it under T8 lights.

The bloom was in January and last for good few weeks.
The scent is rather unpleasant. Nice sweet citrusy top note with disgusting rancid end note which is a huge turn off for me.

The spike had 24 flowers and I was happy to see this coloration as I was thinking it would be a common white with pink spots.

I saved some pollen to use it on neos.

The flowers are long gone now and it is working on a new leaf.
