This plant came to me with no roots in 2014 and I had soaked it in seaweed fertilizer every two weeks then. I was expecting a spike last summer but it does not like the dry summer heat in my area. It grew nicely but it did not blossom. This winter I had set up a mini greenhouse with a 450W LED lights. I keep my Vandas and Cattleyas in here and some phals underneath it. I also have a humidifier inside the tent that keeps humidity at atleast 60%. After just two months, it put out a spike and I was all over the moon when I saw that half inch of spike growing out! It looks to be a pretty old plant somewhere between 8-10 years old. lost some leaves along the way and this is it's first flowering. Flowers are a bit reflexed for some reason. Maybe next time it will be flatter but nonetheless I am pleased with the color and overall look of the flower. Enjoy!

You have the classic flower and plant of the specie. Maybe next year the plant will give you more large flowers. You must give it more water now that it is flowering for you. I soak my plant once a month in a pail of water overnight especially in winter. Don't forget to feed it. My plant is sulking it did not flower this year.

Thanks Bud! It does like to be slightly moist.. Hope yours thrive soon and flower in the next flowering season! I also think the variety that has the white and mahogany combo to be very beautiful as well. I also noticed that the two varieties has a difference in leaf shape.
