Default Vanda tricolor var. suavis

Hello fellow orchid enthusiasts. This is my first thread. Vandaceous orchids are my favourite type of orchids but i love all orchids in general. I am a species lover. I just love the way vandaceous grow with their rambling root system and monopodial habit and they seem to do well for me in my climate. Here is a pic of one of my favourite plants. One of the first orchids in my collection. Feel free to contribute pics of your own of this species to this thread. I'd be interested to see others peoples plants also. Particularly different colour variations.

peace

That is BY FAR my favorite vanda!!!! I would really like to try growing them, but I'm afraid that we do not have enough sun during the winter months where I live. Even my Phals don't look their best this time of year! Is this plant rather tolerant of less-than-perfect growing conditions? Also, I rarely see it for sale... I might have trouble finding one! Nothing beats the unique flowers of tricolor var. suavis, though!!! Congratulations on growing such an awesome plant!!!!

Outstanding!!! I had promised myself No More Vandas because of the extra maintenance but I think I'm gonna have to sneak this one in!

They are quite tolerant and hardy plants when compared with some other Vanda species and easier to grow than most. I live in the subtropics with a climate comparible to parts of Florida. Winter nights sometimes get cold (rarely down to freezing) but winter days are mostly quite warm to cool. The plants have no problem living outside here. Than can tolerate cool conditions better than some other Vandas as they come from a reasonably high altitude but also have no problem with heat either. I don't water them much during winter and keep them on the dry side.

That is sooooo gorgous and healthy it makes me wanna go out and shoot mine. Well, maybe that's kinda drastic since it looked like crap when it came in and is starting to look a tiny bit better now. I don't wanna try to remember how many years ago it got here. Guess, I'll just go get it and show it the pictures of yours, for now. I do so want those flowers.

Gorgeous tricolor! Are they actually growing in the ground?

Do you have a frame of reference how big that plant is? How big across is the leaf span, flower size roughly?

Indeed i'd have to say it is up there among my favourite species. Always puts on a good display.

thanks, its taken years to get it to this stage (it was one of my first plants) but i suppose my climate also helped. They do well outdoor here. I just give it the occasional watering during summer and nothing during winter and it looks after itself.

It is one large multi-stemmed plant growing in a hollow log that i originally planted it in.

I can tell you the largest growth has a stem about 1metre long (just over 3ft) and a leaf span of about 60 cm (2ft). Not sure of flower size but must be between 2 to 3 inches.

thanks for the kind comments,

peace and happy growing to all
