Vanda tessellata x Vanda vietnamica syn Christensonia vietnamica

I got this orchid plant from a grower in Kissimmee, Florida a couple of years ago. The parent combination intrigued me; I was curious what kind of flowers it will bring.
This plant produced 2.5" chartreuse flowers with white lips, the petal form look pretty much like the tessellata parent but the color and lip looked like the vietnamica. I should have taken this indoors while in spike=some insects sucked on the buds and created discolorations on the edges of the petals. Oh well maybe I will get a perfect flower with bigger, flatter and vivid colors next blooming cycle. It has the pleasant fragrant smell of hyacinth in the early morning that fades at noon.
This plant stands two and a half feet tall, a leaf span of 16inches with a root length of three feet and I am thrilled that it gave me 2 keikis.
This is outdoors in the summer and indoors in vase culture in the winter placed at the south facing bay window. I feed it k-lite fertilizer and seaweed mix weekly weakly by soaking it in the mixture for ten minutes. I spray it every morning and fill the vase with water every other day.

Very seldom see a green colour vanda, and it looks very healthy too. I like the vase culture.

I have a vanda that is in spike right now too and I am worried that insects might feed on the buds and I am really looking forward to this flower so I want it to perform it's best. Does neem oil affect bud development?

Sorry about the bugs. They are ridiculous this season here too. I normally don't get bugs that eat my spikes but this year my V. Bangkok Brown had it's new spike eaten by some pest! Now I am watching my V. sauvis and Euanthe sanderiana to make sure their spikes aren't eaten too, fingers crossed.

When I notice a spike on any of my Vandacious plants that is outdoors, I make sure to put it indoors on my south facing window so the bugs will not get to the buds. I didn't notice the spike on this plant until it was too late....the flowers have already opened.

-make sure to put the spiking plants indoors on your brightest window if you can....the bugs will suck on the nectar the buds produce. Even when the flowers open the sweet droplets are still present.
