Is my Vanda Luzonica bloom size? Female
Default Is my Vanda Luzonica bloom size?

I received this orchid as a gift and am wondering if it is bloom size. It seems healthy to me as well and quite large. It has two actively growing roots and lots of green healthy leaves. i have had it about 2.5 months and it grows in an east window getting good sunlight. I don't see any old bloom stalks on this and it was a kieki from a more mature plant. Is it bloom size and look healthy to bloom?

It looks very much blooming size. Do you have other vandas in the same window blooming for you? Light would be my main concern for getting it to bloom.

Thanks! Well, I am new to Vandas, I just started growing them in August. I have 4 total, two of which I got in Bud- which leaves 2 that have not spiked. Of my higher light orchids, I have gotten Dendrobiums and Oncidiums to spike in these windows. I have two of my vandas in a south-east window, that get even more sun, and the two others in an east window. All are healthy and have even gotten some red spotting, so I assumed they are getting enough light, but maybe not?

A little red on the foliage is a good sign... Southeast is probably better for all your vandas this time of year. And fyi, vandas will generally require more light than most dendrobiums and oncidiums to bloom. All of that said, I'm not a luzonica expert but I would imagine you may be able to get it to bloom in less light that some other vandas because of its flat/open leaves. Good luck!

It is definitely blooming size so give it more light on the south facing window....invest in an electric humidifier with oscillating fan....and give it more warmth this winter
