Rhy. coelestis? - Orchid Board

I recently bought a rhynchostylis coelestis and have noticed that the spikes are facing down.
Could it be a rhy. Retusa, or have they just formed like that from the position of the leaves?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd use a stake to guide them up. As for the species, you won't be able to tell 100% until it blooms.

Yes you have to wait until it blooms but it is a fact that Rhyncho coelestis has erected spikes.

I wouldn't want to stake it yet in case it is a rhy. Retusa and being a first flowering, I don't want to risk breaking off the spike

My Coelestis does start out with the spikes kind of growing downward but as it progresses they become upright.

Yours looks more pronounced. The others are right. Wait for it to bloom. I wouldn't try adjusting it, it might break.

Take a wider shot of the plant so I can see the entire plant and how its being hung. Also where is your light source; does it get light from all angles or from one particular direction?

Oh, my favorite one, the Rhynchostilis family. I agree, looks like you have Rhyn. gigantea or Rhyn. retusa as the Ryhn. coelestis always has erecting spikes. Look at the leaves, I tend to think yours is a Rhyn. retusa because of the leaves' form (Rhyn. gigantic has broader and thicker leaves).

I don't think you can comment just yet on what type of vanda it is. One cannot assume that all coelestis vanda will always have erect spikes especially if it is not a cloned plant.

The light it gets is broken indirect through some palms
