Talking V. Pat's Delight (Red) 5" blooms

I just would love to share some pics of my recently opening V. Pat's Delight (Red). It hasn't completely opened but the blooms are enormous and took 3-4 day per 2 blooms at a time to open. This is the plants first spike.

I can't wait till all blooms are full open and take on the rich Red colours!

Enjoy!

Impressive. I love the colors on this. This must have just opened...after a couple of days it will flatten more and you will se the true form.

Yep i sure know that Bud!
I am really excited for when they are all opened and flatten out and the colour gets even richer!
Unfortunately all 11 won't be opening as it seems the very top bloom is blasted. I can only guess the reason to be natural causes or maybe i fertilized too long into the spiking phase, judging from these massive blooms it seems to be naturally aborted by the orchid given this is its first spike.

I dont know the real reason, but I have read somewhere to stop fertilizer when the buds open their blooms...I do this specifically with vandas, since sometimes the last two buds on the very tip are the ones that blasts...but some Vanda specie opens all the buds to its fullest...with my other orchids it doesnt bud blast with continuos fertilizer while in bloom...Dendrobiums on winter rest also must stop fertilizer one month before it rests and continue when the plant is is growth mode

Yep, all things that i have read before. It is recommended to reduce or stop fertilizer during blooming for all orchids.
