Vanda Rothshildiana

(Vanda coerulea x Euanthe sandriana)
These are the two main Vanda species in the origins of Vanda Rothshildiana:
Euanthe sanderiana(formerly Vanda sanderiana but is recently given its own genus, and is no longer a Vanda but a Euentha) is known to give full form to its progeny(notice the full rounded lower petals and the pink stem); Vanda coerulea tends to elongate the inflorescence, notice the lip on my flower which is a combination of the two parents and gives blue tessellation.
I grow this on S/H which from a near blooming size traded with one of my mature keiki Euentha a year and a half ago(this is a 4 and a half year old plant), notice the roots established and growing down towards the water.
Fertilizer of Algoflash and seaweed alternating weekly weakly. It is in a south facing window in winter but at the moment it stays outside the window of the fire escape.

Well Done! I have tried S/H many times with Vandas with out any success. I seem to be only able to grow them in the Vase Method.

Thank You, Sonya ! Its 14 inches tall including the spike...and 16 inches wide...its in a 6" diameter glass vase that I drilled holes in...you should grow Vandas...you have an environment that is good for it...you have humidity in your atmosphere... grow them outdoors this warm months

Thank You, Ted ! if you try S/H again with Vandas... do not let the roots touch water on the first few months...and use a heatmatt ...the vandas dont like cold...water in the glass tend to get cold even in summer in the windowsill(the airconditioning is the culprit) the rest ...I just followed Ray's instructions
*most vandas grow in the equatorial belt...its warm(105F) in the hot season months=a couple of months with no rain but humid heat ...then... drenched with water in the monsoon rains season (65F)...even the cold growing Vandas (coerulea )have torrential rains in the Himalayas...so they can tolerate to be immersed in water for a couple of months=but dont do this...you are not in the Himalayas, lol

Hi one and all, I have 2 bare root Vandas that I just received and would like to put them in baskets. Do you have any tips for me? Such as what to do or another forum to look at? I am in Zone 5 so these are indoor in my sunroom.
