Today it rained! We had half an inch today - more than the whole of last year put together!
So I decided to give my vanda a treat, took it out of the vase and placed it on the airer where it stayed all day:biggrin:

However, taking it out of the vase made me realise that this plant is surviving, not thriving :(
It has a soak in it's vase 3 or 4 times a week for an hour each time, the roots are watered well on the other days, several times a day, it gets more fertiliser than it used to, is in a very warm room, in the southern window that now has no sheer curtain.
The leaf colour is better, more an apple green than a strong green but it has grown only 2 leaves in the last year. The root mass seems a lot less.
I'm going to think again about putting it outside - the frequency and amount of watering is my biggest challenge to overcome. I'd love to put it in a tree but the only ones of any size in my garden exude a sticky sap - would that be a problem?

Phals, onc in glass

I've been growing my phals and onc. in glass for about a year and a half. They do really well but it's a bit of a chore to water, drain, clean the glass and replace on the shelf each watering. It's become sort of a zen thing for me though. I fill each glass with r/o or rainwater and food and let sit for half an hour or so, then drain each and wash the glass and replace the orchid. The drained water goes to my other house plants. The empty wine goblet is waiting for a new mini catt that should get here Tuesday. It will be my first attempt at growing catts, hope I have enough light in my east window. I'm a noob here but have spent many hours learning from all ya'll already.

Welcome, and nice display.
But I think you've missed the point here. This thread is about growing Vandas bareroot in glass vases. Your orchids look as if they are inside standard plastic pots with media and the glass vases are purely nice looking drip trays.
Hats off to you for cleaning the glass every watering!

Hi guys, i am not sure what's I am missing regard to aquarium water. Can we use it to water Vanda or humidity or something else? is it good or bad?
