Sansai blue will bloom 2 or 3 times a year. I have just ordered Pak chong blue so we will see how that performs for me. Mikasas do very well, they are cast iron vandas.
Philoserenus, i found that the Neofinetia needs more dampness around its roots and does better with some sphagnum around its roots too. |
Hi telipogon,
Just one more question for you! Do you keep the potting medium (bark) in the basket while the vanda is sitting on top of the vase? Thank you, Buds! |
nope. have never received a vanda with any bark before !
|
So, what is in your basket? If you don't mind me asking.:)
|
nothing !
|
Gotcha!
I bought this Vancostylis 'Blue Haze' from my local orchid nursery this afternoon, and it is sitting in a basket full of bark. I wouldn't know any better because this is my very first vanda. I will proceed on 'de-barking' tomorrow and putting it in a big glass lamp. Thanks for all your tips! |
This is an excellent idea, thanks for sharing!
Those vandas are to die for  I think I'll go find me a vase and put my only Ascda. in there today. :D |
lighting
Im looking to do some growth in vases and hanging in baskets in my experimental green-white house project,
does anyone have any ideas/recommendations on additional lighting that may be great for vandas, since I only have an east facing window? telipogon do you know much about this, Im looking at this site and lost like anything, and dont want to spend ludicrous amounts Grow Lights | Hydroponic Lighting Supplies hmmmm |
I'm afraid i know nothing about lighting, i don't use it.....but if you find anything out, please do let me know.
|
stupid lights!
Im thinking about the compact fluorescent lights or the T5 Fluorescent they're about $150ish:( , so I'll see if I get this new job, if I do then I can easily buy these and not worry if not then owell...
But vandas need about 2500-5000 footlights, the ones Im interested in are about 2500 footlights plus there is the east side window with lots of reflection from sunlight all day, so i'll see...Im sure these babies will eat my electric bill, I think anything stronger than this would just be a drain and really not affordable..... South, and soutwest windows are apparently the best.... I hope this provides some insight, I'll do some price hunting and see whats the best I'll find |
