Default Vanda merrillii - first of three spikes

My Vanda merrillii just opened the flowers on its first of three spikes that are being produced this summer. Easy plant to grow and flower. The flowers don't last a long time (a couple of weeks if I'm lucky, which, for a Vanda, is below the average as far as lifespan goes), but they're produced in abundance (the spike that holds these flowers has fourteen blooms) and, best of all, they're extremely fragrant.

Smweaver, do you still have this V.Merrillii? I saw one today blooming at Fairchild Tropical Gardens and while shotting pics I got a wiff of it. Man that smelled great. I gotta get one.

Thats fantastic! You should get it to a judging and see if you can get it awarded. There has only ever been one other with more than 14 blooms and non of the other awarded merrillii have had that coloration. They tend to have more mahogany. Yours definatley stands out!

Very nice, Steve! I wish I could find it but, except for a few ones, Vanda species are not easily found here.

Steve,

Your merrillii is gorgeous! Congrats on your 3 spikes. I have a little baby one that probably won't bloom for a few years...but now I know it will be worth the wait! Thanks for sharing your photos with us!
