Default Some vandaceous blooms....

These are a few in bloom now. The red one, Ascda. Arthorn, is starting to fade, it is almost finished blooming. The beautiful golden one is Vasco. Nongleham x V. Mimi Palmer, and this is the first time I've seen it bloom.....it was a "pot luck" purchase last year sometime. The pink is one of my favorites....the plant stands about 3' tall (not counting the 3' of roots), and it puts out huge, gorgeous blooms every year. The tag on it said sanderiana, but apparently it's a hybrid. I don't want to make anyone freak out this year (you know who you are), so I'm not going to call it anything. Just calling it a beautiful orchid might keep me from getting my head bit off....so here it is!

If your Vandas won't bloom, they more than likely aren't getting enough light. They are one of the most light-loving genus' in the orchid world. The majority of them can thrive in full sun, if introduced slowly. My whole greenhouse has a shadecloth roof, except the very end. The last four roof panels are clear plastic....and this is where the Vandaceous reside.
They also like lots of food & water. In the summertime, I feed them twice a week (heavily), and I have misters in the greenhouse that turn on twice a day (for ten minutes). So they really love the sun, as long as youi cool them down a couple times a day....or at least once a day. But they will take as much as you are willing to give them. Good luck!

I don't have much Vanda experience but I would agree they seem to love the sun. Mine got a bit much early in the summer with the top leaves turning quite red while outdoors in direct sun (those have since gone back to green) but it is now spiking and growing lots of new roots and it seemed to enjoy the light.

Yes, this is why my misters run twice a day. Once in the morning, and again in the heat of the day. This seems to be enough water to keep the leaf temps at a good level. When I first startred growing Vandas, I couldn't bloom them either. I wasn't giving them anywhere near enough light. But as soon as I moved them, they rewarded me almost immediately with blooms....almost like they were just waiting for me to get with program!
