Congratulations! It is not unheard of for orchids to bloom out of season. This species is normally a spring to summer bloomer. But that is a guide to how most bloom. What I have seen over the years is they bloom when they want to.

I checked Orchidwiz, and although the majority of plant bloom late spring, there are quite a few recorded bloomings ealier in the year, as early as January. Some plants will bloom earlier than others if the conditions suit them. It's happened to me before as well that a species will bloom when I'm not expecting it!

As a small comment, when writing the names of species, the genus part is capitalized, but not the species part. So ampullaceum should be written with a lower case 'a'. This helps avoid confusion with hybrids, where both parts of the name are capitalized!

Couldn't it be that if grown inside an apartment the heat tricks the plant into an early spring?
my Dendrobium nobile started all this new growth and in my apt. it's definitely warmer in the winter than in the fall.

Maybe it could be but i hate how hot it gets. so at night my windows are open and i turn on the fan so it never gets to warm in my room in my house. Either way im happy its blooming. i just thought it was odd that in the middle of winter anything in my collection other than winter catts and a phal or two! hopefully the buds wont blast
