Beautiful plant & flowers, Mauro!

A question: Is this Asctm miniatum or Asctm garayi? The petals seem more elliptical and more orange-y than what I understand to be the case for Asctm miniatum and the lip seems more straight (which is supposed to be Asctm garayi) than reflexed/curved (which is supposed to be Asctm miniatum). Asctm miniatum also has more distinct 'veining' in the sepals and petals, it is hard to see if that is present on the flowers here?

Just curious. Whichever way, nice plant.

I also grow Ascocentrum garayi and it seems different, both plant and flower, from this miniatum, Raymond. Take a look here at my garay

For a look at a little more detailed photo of miniatum:

Mauro,

How interesting! I have never seen a red Asctm garayi before, your plant of it is very nice. (I confess it looks like Asctm curvifolium to me...)

All the plants I've seen so far labelled as Asctm garayi or Asctm miniatum have been orange-ish. There appears to be some confusion about garayi versus miniatum in some quarters?

Thanks,

Mauro I love your Ascocentrum , they will do well in my part of the world. I think I should put that one on my wish list. Lovely plant.

Thanks,

Raymond.
Sometimes things get a bit confusing, Raymond, even though we try our best to get them right! You see, I acquired that red Ascocentrum as A. curvifolium and times ago when I presented it here on OB one of our friends assured me it was not curvifolium, but garayi. I then changed label and photos IDs. I did it, but something was bugging me all this time. Having read your post I decided to go a little deeper in the subject curvifolium-garayi-miniatum and I agree with you, my orange Ascocentrum is garayi, not miniatum, and my red is what I bought, A. curvifolium.
Back to label changing, hope this time definitely!
Thanks, Raymond, you were very helpful.

Mauro, yours second shown plant is definitely curvifolium. Not only flowers, but even foliage is typical for curvifolium. Compare with mine

And here is garayi

This one is identical with your first plant. So, you are right - back to label changing!
