Wow, my last vanda to bloom for the summer is moving fast. Last time I posted, this is what the flower spike looked like on Oct 8:

Well here's the progress since then:

Oct 14

Oct 15

Oct 17

October 20

I love it. Blue vandas are my favorite.

Default Fragrance

The grower I got it from said it was supposed to be fragrant, grape-like I think. But so far I'm not smelling anything - perhaps it just hasn't developed enough yet to be fragrant, or my sense of smell is dead. The latter is possible, I also grow plumeria and I can only smell about half of the ones I have blooming, the others seem scentless. We'll find out as the flowers fill out some more I guess.

Oh, that's right. You got it from Smiley if I remember correctly, didn't you? I purchased a few Vandas from her. All of them are just great quality ( Large with lots of roots ).

Default Smiley's Orchids

Yes, you're correct, I did get that vanda from Smiley's. It was a strong plant when I got it, altho' with very thin long roots from greenhouse growing. Since I put it in the vase, it's started growing very thick healthy roots and has been doing fine from day one. I'm very happy with it. I'd consider getting more from her if I didn't already feel like a little elderly retired person with too many cats already...

Yes, I agree, the color on this one is very unusual for a blue-ish vanda. And the petals are almost waxy, from the V. Mimi Palmer in the mix, a nice contrast to the regular V. coerulea hybrid.
