Exclamation Growth Tip Rotted Now What??

Hey guys i believe that it is due to a rain we got here a couple of days ago and also that same night it got down to mid 50's low 60's at night. i think that is what has caused the growing tip of my vanda to rot. well now what do i do? do i discard the plant? or do i wait and see what it does? please get back to me!

I don't really know what you can do. Just hang on to it, remove the dead parts and pray it doesn't go down south for you (if you believe in such things ).

You might luck out. The meristems along the stem could kick in and grow new kheikis.

i believe the nodes will fire up too...with the central crown gone the plant will strive to reproduce any way it can....in this case keikis....take care of it as usual, just dont let it stay out in those cool nites!....gl

yah we will se what happens! i usually pay attention to the weather reports and check the night temps... but alas i did not this time and i paid for it. my catts can handle the chilly nights with out skipping a beat but I have to remember that vanda's are Ill equipped to handle dips in temp.

i did have a couple of plants that rot. for some, if only the top leaves rot, i just pull out that leaf and the subsequent leaves until i see 'clear'. if the plant survives this, it will grow, mine even flowered! but it takes some time... and the new growth will look funny! if rotting too much, i'll cut. it might produce keikis, but will take time. if all else fails, it will die. i lost a few vandas due to this too... just cross your fingers and i wish you good luck!

I have a small Vanda seedling that I had the same thing happen to, after a couple of weeks I noticed that it was still growing apparently the rot hadn't gotten all the way down to the meristem. The leaf that was emerging looks bad but a new one is coming out and it looks just fine.

Guess you should just see there is no more rot and allow it to heal. I am sure the plant will do its part and throw a shoot to surprise you.

i should check and see if it has any more and pull out any subsequent damage. two leaves popped right out! the newest one and the one below it. it is still making roots. well not brand new ones but the existing ones are branching and one of the new new ones, which tip calloused reopened and is continuing growth. we will see what happens

Don't know about regrowth and all that but you may want to invest in some Physan or RD 20 which has been renamed but both are chemically the same product, if you are going to be summering your plants outside. I used to have a major problem with crown rot in phals until I began using RD 20. Now almost never. This stuff kills off all the mold that leads to rot when the crown is wet for a long time, like over night. I routinely spray my plants monthly both in the GH and outside. RD 20 is about $30.00/ gal.. don't know about Physan 20
