Getting baby vanda to root - Orchid Board

Hi I purchased some baby Vandas(one year old)fewdays back.
One of the plants has its root system affected.
Only a small stub about half a cm looks ok.
rest of the roots looks bad and dead.
what are the chances of getting it to survive and sprout new roots.

Dev, I am not an expert but if it were mine i'd cut off all the dead roots and give it a good soak with a rooting hormone & it should be ok! good luck and keep us posted!

yes I think almost the same. If the moisture is ok (I think in Orissa it should) , add roots hormone, reduce lightning (no direct sun) until new roots appear and it will ok.

If other than just the roots the plants look good then just keep the humidity 60% to 80%and temp around 27˚C and the plants will do there thing. I have a few seedlings that I got a few months ago and they all have great roots now.

Thanks a lot for the replies, I really appreciate them.
I just wanted to know what rooting hormone can I use.
I have a generic hormone powder meant for semi soft wood.
can I make a paste/thick solution and apply it?

That dosn't tend to wook too well the powder may be a little too strong but if you can't find anything like KLN or Super Thrive then you could try it or if you want to try fresh coconut milk it contains auxins and other hormones and has been used in the past to stimulate roots.

Fresh Coconut milk is available in plenty here.
Guess I have o take care of ants also

WOW Dev I had never heard of coconut milk being a growth stimulant. Thanks for the education. I'll tell my mum who also can't get KLN or Super Thrive. Merci!

I found out more interesting fact nenella.HONEY, yes honey is also used as a rooting factor.
any one knows how long will this coconut milk needs to be used and how many application is adequate for root growth?

I will try & google about the honey..
About the coconut milk soak..I haven't the faintest idea but i'd just soak for a good 30 mins?...and probably do it once a week & see what that does for starters... It may take quite a while as I'm not sure it's 'as strong ' as an 'artificial' hormone..
But, then again who knows? It may be potent like pawpaw milk which if put on a splinter or thorn will draw the thorn out of the skin- I know for a fact it works on sea urchin spines!
So have a go & keep us posted please. I am very interested in seeing what happens in your growing conditions.Good luck!
