Default Something Different--A Dyakia

This vandaceous specie is a very difficult grower for me. The dainty rose pink flowers are very small (natural spread is 0.5 inches). It is currently grown in a very loose media consisting of large chucks of orchid bark in a plastic pot. The plant was obtained from H&R Nurseries in Hawaii.

I would appreciate hearing from people that have had good success in raising Dyakias

Mine has been slowly dwindling. Two years ago it had two large inflorescence's. This last year one. But it isn't dying, just not growing. Mine is mounted on a piece of wood and lives in my orchid tank. Nice one you have there. Wish mine had that many blossoms. Thanks for sharing.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Hi there, it's lovely!!

I have a Dykia purchased from Andy's orchids. I have it potted in an Erin Pot in my office. It bloomed (not too many though) and is in the process of growing leaves as we speak. It's growing new roots also.

I have it in a mix of moss, hydroton, charchoal and cork. It receives filtered light most of the day, and I water it twice weekly.

I love this. How big is yours? How long have you had it?

I just got a Dyakia at Parkside and would also love to hear any hints on keeping it happy. It has a spike full of flowers, but it seems...eh. Not very robust. It's in a 2 inch clay pot with a mix of perlite and small bark, I've been watering 2-3 times a week and it's not declining, just doesn't seem too perky.

I got this plant a few weeks ago and when it arrived it was potted in a large grade of bark inside of a tiny 2 inch pot from which i removed it and tied it to a piece of tree fern and since i now have a new leaf as well as a pair of new root tips emerging from the base stem. It seems to enjoy the drying out period before each watering on the mount and i would assume it received something similar to that inside of such a small pot with such large media present.
