Ascocentrum garayi - Orchid Board

The spike I posted earlier finally opened! This was sold to me as A. miniatum, which I understand is a common error. After waiting patiently nearly two years for it to bloom, it finally presented itself... as A. garayi. I believe the shape of the lip (straight, rather than recurved) is an identifying trait.

Ultimately, who cares - it's such a great little 'chid and just as enjoyable no matter what it is.

Great job!
Mine flowered about 2 years ago (after a year or two of waiting) but since then - nada. In fact, it hasn't done much of anything, but since I started watering more frequently it has put out a few roots.

Here's a pic from when it did decide to reward me...

Oddly, that's when mine finally started responding: after I upped the watering to several times a day, and added another day of (weak) fertilizer to the feeding regimen. It's in a 4" teak basket, so it can handle the extra water because it's dry within an hour.

Yeah, mine's on a stick so it can definitely take the water. Several times a day, huh? I thought I was doing good at once a day. My GF will be overjoyed to hear this news... not.
