Hello all.

Does anybody have a picture of this Vanda? I got this at the local orchids society meeting a while ago and the plant is doing well.

As a matter of fact, this is the beginning of the addiction. Since then, I have collected 12 of Vandas. They are growing under 400W HID lights.

It should be a flat, rounded flower about 4" across. It might have speckles because the V. Gordon Dillon has purple spots.

Welcome Mollycart1

I can't answer your question about the flower on your vanda, but I can encourage you on growing vandas under lights.

I have been told that I can grow vandas under lights but they will never flower. NOT TRUE. These pictures are here to encourage you.

I grow mine under a 600 W HPS light. It is on a light mover so it isn't constantly under the full light. I spray the roots every morning, with fretilizer in my water. I have a humidifier in that room but spraying the plants every morning also helps keep the humidity up.

Here is a pic of my set-up in my basement, and two of the plants which I have brought into bloom for the second time. Sorry about the color on one edge of the pic. With the light moving across the bench, it is almost imposible to take a pic without the color of the light catching one end.

NOTE: The white shower curtain is there only to prevent me from spraying water on my wall. and let us know how it works for you. - - Marilyn

Marilyn,

Thank you for the encouragement. As a matter of fact, I have been browsing this site for a while. I noticed your setting and it inspired me to build a similar one. Mine is much smaller than yours: 48"H x 36"W x 38"D. It is also wrapped around with a shower curtain (top is wide open for air movement) to keep humidity level around 60-70%. If I can find a way to post pictures, I will do so.

I don't have mine completly enclosed. I have a fan sitting on a table nearby because they like good air movement. My fan is on 24/7.

Hey Grandma, nice orchids and nice set-up. Whats a light mover? Lights on a track that go back and forth?
