Default Ascda 'Louis Hattos' blooming

The blooms on this big vanda opened this week. The flowers smell like grape Koolaid. It is 3 ft tall! It has big purple flowers about 4" across. One spike with 8 flowers and 1 blasted bud. I also have this plant in pink but no spike on that one yet. I got them a couple years ago from Martin and Mary Motes near Homestead. I lost the tags so I called them today and Mary was good enough to give me the whole history. "It is 1316! Ascda 'Louis Hattos', a cross between Ascda John De Biase and V .. or Ascda ... something.. Mary Motes.." I got lost about there. I will ask her again at the Redlands show and write it down this time!

Thanks everyone! I love this plant. I bought this one and a pink variation of the same plant bare root (unpotted) on the same day. This is the second time the purple has bloomed for me, but nothing from the pink yet. It would be nice if they bloomed at the same time!

When they are spaced out there are more flowers to enjoy. Hope the pink blooms for you to enjoy also.
