Vandachostylis Colmarie x Tubtim: end-tips of roots
Default Vandachostylis Colmarie x Tubtim: end-tips of roots

Hello everyone,

I got this Vanda shipped from a nursery in Netherdlands nearly one month ago.
I keep it hanged with a south-west exposure so it gets sun for most of the day.

The leaves have always had some blackish spots, but I have seen videos of other vandas having them so I did not worry too much. I've attached a pics of how the leaves look like: they have this black line along their edges.

I soak it once a day for 10-15 minutes. What I have noticed is that while when I got it all the roots were green, now the end-tips look dry out, they are brown (I hope you can see them in the pictures). Plus, some of the roots have dried out and I can see here and there some sort of fractures in the roots (hopefully visible in the pics), and I am not sure whether this is ok. I thought then it was perhaps getting too much light and I put in a room with a west exposure but I can't see much change.

I also took a picture of the stem where you can clearly see some black spots which do not look too promising...is this a fungus? Should I worry?

Thank you very much beforehand for your support!

The first thing that jumped into my head about the roots was that the solution you're soaking the plant in has an issue. Can you fill us in more about that?

The leaf issue does look like a fungus. When you soak it, are you immersing the leaves, or just the roots?

I soak it in tap water, it's the same water I drink and that I use for all my other plants.

I do not immerse the leaves, just the roots. Occasionally some water may touch the steam but I am normally where cautious to avoid that
