Default My new Vanda

So, I found a Vanda at a discount at a local nursery here a couple of weeks ago. It stayed there tucked away in a forgotten corner all this time nobody apparently wanting it, and yesterday when I went to check it I saw it had grown a flower spike! It also has a baby keiki growing out of its base, so I decided to buy it (still at a discount!), even though I have no idea as to the color of the blooms.

So, it's going to be a surprise, what kind of blooms I'm going to get from this Vanda.

Thought I'd post this, my friends don't understand the excitement. Also, I just joined the board, so this is my first post.

Welcome to The OB and congratulations on the new acquisition. You don't show the new keiki but you do indeed have a flower spike. Please post again when it blooms so we can see how it turns out.

By the way, you can remove the old flower spike. It wont rebloom and will make the plant look much cleaner when the new spike does.

I would say that it's one of the Ascocenda Princess Mikasa varieties, but please do keep us posted.
And congrats for the purchase

Thanks guys!

The keiki is tucked away quite hidden in the tiny black plastic ''basket'' the Vandas usually come with. I didn't see it initially, and it's difficult to photograph. I think I'm going to cut a piece of that basket off, so that the keiki has room to grow. Because it's quite stuck in there, in that narrow space.

And yes, I will cut the old flower spike. I just took the first pictures before doing that. It actually has flowered 3 times already, there are 3 old spikes. So this is going to be its 4th.

And here's a picture of the keiki that's growing on it. It was completely stuck in that Vanda plastic support. I cut it open, so hopefully now it has room to grow bigger.

Good guess. It's started blooming now, and from the looks of it, it appears to be a V. Ascocenda Princess Mikasa Alba.
