Word of warning, I tried potting mine up in bark like my other Phals, one died and the survivor lost all its in pot roots. Mine seems to be doing better now in a Vanda basket. Monitor it closely, if you make a change.

Hm thanks, I will keep this in mind. I have a plastic pot with holes in the sides which might be a good intermediary. Maybe I'll try watering it a bit more often first in its basket and see what happens.

Lacie, the plant lives in my "indoor greenhouse", a plastic tent over a growing rack. It is in a southwest window, so plenty of light, although not fully direct in the afternoon as it is back a bit. The humidity in there stays between 60 and 70% most of the time, and the temperature rarely drops below 65 in the house. So, warm, moist, bright to medium light.


Did you repot when you got the plant? Mine usually responds with a new leaf after a repotting. I use a chunky bark mix appropriate for phals.

Fishmom, just wanted to let you know I repotted my Siderea a few days ago into a plastic pot (with good size holes on the sides for airflow) with chunky bark so it would stay a little moister and it is already pushing a new root and two new root tips! Now I just have to wait for it to be happy enough to start making leaves and eventually flowers. Thanks for the tips!
