Default Neostylis Lou Sneary Bluebird

I purchased this plant in February of this year and it arrived on Valentine’s Day. It is from J&L Orchids. It had one tired flower left on an old spike when it arrived and a second spike about three inches long. The flowers were gorgeous!

I call this plant Moose as it dwarfs my Neofinetia.

This is my first hybrid, a cross of Neofinetia falcata and Rhynchostylis coelestis.

It is apparently happy after a recent repot. It is potted in bark & charcoal and has an upturned net pot in the bottom with a few packing peanuts. I hope the new flowers will be as nice as the previous blooms. Can’t wait!

That is great, two times blooming in the same year. Ours blooms once a year in February, it did have three spikes this year. This is one of our favorite fragrant orchids and to have it bloom twice would be wonderful.

I was very surprised and pleased to see the plant is going to bloom again. It is such a hearty plant. It has grown one leaf and has another coming along. Very nice fragrance as well.

I love the flowers and today I ordered a Darwinara Charm Blue Star from Motes. I’ve never purchased from Martin before, he certainly is helpful and pleasant to email with. I’ve only read good things about Motes Orchids and I couldn’t find Blue Star anywhere! I’ll post in another thread when the plant arrives.

Wonderful! How nice to have more flowers! Looks like you are hooked on the neos and neo-hybrids!

Thanks Leafmite! It’s always nice to have more flowers. I really love the Neos and a few of the hybrids will be a nice addition though they are so much larger. The Blue Star has amazing color and Martin from Motes Orchids assured me the flowers are quite dark blue. His plants look much shorter than my Bluebird and he says they are multiple growths too.

A little update. Bluebird had 9 buds and 4 flowers are open so far. The color is gorgeous and the sweet fragrance is amazing. This is a beautiful plant, I am so happy to see it flowering again. Here are a couple of pictures from this morning.

Back in August I said that it would be ‘wonderful if it would bloom twice in one year’. I started checking to see if it could happen and low and behold it has. About the end of August I started to see buds forming and by mid September we have blooms. What a joy it is to walk out the back door and get a whiff of the sweet honey like fragrance. It has a second spike that is a couple of weeks from flowering and the keikei that started growing from the base last year has a spike on it too. Wonder if it will bloom again in February? That would be wonderful then. Thanks Pattywack for your post, that apparently stirred my Neostylis to bloom now too.

Selmo, wow, your Bluebird is huge! I thought my plant was large, yours is amazing. Congratulations on the second bloom and multiples as well. How long have you had your plant and how large was it before it grew the keiki? I love these, just a big Neo for me with amazing color. They smell so sweet!

If I’m not mistaken, you grow in a greenhouse? I’m envious. Being originally from Missouri I’m familiar with the weather especially the humidity. You must have many gorgeous orchids growing and blooming, glad to see Bluebird is a favorite of yours. I hope my plant will continue to flower and grow as well as yours.

Thanks for posting! Enjoy!
