Default New Neofinetia Yoroidoushi and Benisuzume

I recently received my order from Satomi, two beautiful Neofinetia. The Yoroidoushi is a small needle leaf plant and I believe the name translates to Dagger. There are six fans on this plant, it really is nice. The Yoroidoushi was formerly known as Chousentetsu. I think this plant is difficult to flower.

The Benisuzume is not a bean leaf size though not as large as some. Maybe four inch leaf span? There are ten fans on this plant, some are new, small fans. The name translates to Red Sparrow, I like that as the flowers are called red though they are actually pink. I had been waiting for Satomi to list this plant as the flowers are “supposed “ to smell like bubblegum! Now who doesn’t like bubblegum fragrance?

The two plants are very healthy and I hope to see blooms next season. Here are a couple pictures of each.

Very nice! Bubblegum does sound rather irresistible. I bought Encyclia graciana for the same reason.

Thank you all for your kind words. Bubblegum sounded pretty inviting to me as well!

Ummm Charles, this plant didn’t come with any baseball cards:/ Nice memory though.

Very nice looking plants! My Yoroidoshi (is that the same as Yoroidouchi??) is nowhere near as large and nice looking as yours. Wish we had good Neo sources here!

I got back from Japan a few days ago, and did not manage to find a single nearby Neo place to visit (nothing is in English online) and no time to make the 2h train ride to Seed Engei. I did see some Neos in the streets of Kyoto. People have 'potted plant gardens' in front of their houses, and one garden had a small collection of Neos (mounted on wood or rock) and Den moniliforme. It was also interesting to see the variety of plants which are grown in moss mounds!

Camille, I must have missed your post. Thank you the Yoroidoushi is very nice. It is pretty small, not sure I’ve seen a picture of yours? I’ve seen this plant name spelled differently as well, I believe they are the same plant.

Too bad you were unable to visit any Neo growers in Japan. That would have been quite a treat. I’m afraid I would have had to console myself with a couple of gorgeous Neo pots at least. I assume the trip was amazing, so much to see! Potted gardens sounds interesting and I’ll bet beautiful as well.

Have you been able to visit your new found Neofinetia vendor near you? I’ve been watching for a post from you with a load of new plants.

Here is a picture of the Yoroidoushi in it’s new pot. For size, the pot is 2 1/2” tall so not a big plant but very cute.

Your plant is beautiful! Once mine has some more growths it will look much nicer.

If I had stayed an extra 2 days in Japan I think I would have taken a day off from sightseeing, jumped in a train and headed to Seed Engei. It would have been 'only' a 2 hour journey.

But I did see a few Neos in the streets of Kyoto. People keep all sorts of plants in front of their very small homes, and one house had a bunch of Neos and what appeared to be Den moniliforme.

I also found it interesting that they grow all sorts of plants in moss! This was out in front of a supermarket:
