Default My first Neo/Vanda

My daughter and I went to the orchid show last Sunday, and I brought this little cutie home. I've done a lot of reading, and feel a brand new Obsession beginning!

Still don't know what I have here, the vender said it was a neo x vanda.
the tag has Vanda Pinky on it, no other info. I thought it would be more scented, but so far very faint. [flowers only opened yesterday.

Darn!, knew I should have bought the tiny white one !

What you have is officially Vandachostylis Pinky (that ch sounds like k), but it is probably better known under the earlier name Neostylis Pinky (Neofinetia falcata x Rhynchostylis gigantea). You will probably find more information as Neostylis. Neofinetia falcata got reclassified as Vanda falcata, hence the change, but there are those who will threaten your life if you insist on calling it Vanda. Either way it is a Vanda alliance hybrid, so informally calling it Vanda isn't wrong, just not precise. Your vendor seems a bit foggy on details.

I got the same plant! …from the same vendor. Mine hasn't bloomed yet, but I can't wait to see its pretty speckled blooms.

It was labelled:
Van. (Neost.) Pinky
(V. (Neof.) falcata "Pink' x Rhy. gigantea 'Red')

Mine literally looks like that with a flower or two forming on (wrong) side of leaf... Kinda bugs me lol but it's a cutie first blooming for me. There are different cultivars with varying degrees of purple and/ spots.

Van. is the proper abbreviation for Vandachostylis (Vanda is just V.) so that one was correctly and completely labeled. That vendor can be allowed to live.

Rhynchostylis gigantea varies in color from pure white through pastels to saturated color, nearly orange through peach, pink, nearly red and purple, fine speckles through spots to large blotches to solid colors. Neo falcata varies too. And there are some second generation Pinky x Pinky plants out there too, so you could acquire dozens of these all distinctly different.

Good Morning

Thanks so much for the description. I had an inkling it was
called a neo, after perusing Loads of threads , but had to confirm with OB You never let me down!

There is a stronger, real pleasant scent to it , this morning sort of violet like, and a few more flowers on this spike. Another spike is on the opposite side, and appears to be growing ha ha.
very slowly....

All in all, very happy with this little guy,

This general class of plants (V. finetia x ???) is one of my favorites. As I sell out my greenhouse, I am carefully setting one or two of each hybrid aside for me.

PaphMadMan,

"That vendor can be allowed to live."

…this made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that.
