1st NF of the season, plus another hybrid
This year 'Setsuzan' is the first Neo to bloom in my collection. And, my once neglected Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom is back in good health and putting on a show (with Nakamotoara Newberry Apricot showing color in the background).
The interesting thing about the Cherry Blossom, is that it is supposedly is made with Asctm ampullaceum, var. album. Either it was an albescent, and not album, or the recessive album gene is somehow being dominated by the white, but not alba, Neofinetia falcata, as the typical ampullaceum color came back.
I guess that I ought to pollinate it with another alba, and then see what the offspring flowers like.

My variegated Neofinetia, like your Setsuzan are the first Neofinetia to bloom. My all green Neos, I suppose, are just waiting? LOL.
I have the same hybrid too. I was surprised it was this color.

I just yesterday got a Cherry blossom but mine is made with amullaceum (China Strain) what ever that is. I will try and get pictures and start a thread as I am going to need some help.
Yours is really out doing itself.

No I haven't seen a white Ascfn Cherry Blossom. According to the label on this plant, the hybrid was created with a white flowered Neofinetia and a Asctm. ampullaceum var. alba--which I assume was also a white flower. Which is why I was surprised it was this color when it bloomed. |

NF is white, but does not necesearily carry the genetic mutation for alba, which the ampullaceum did. And, if a NF does carry such a mutation, which we can't see as std color is white, it might not be on the same gene.
In this plant, the non-alba NF is blocking the alba ampullaceum. I would have to self it to test the genetics! Depending upon genetics, i should get either 25% or 6% whites in next generation.
