Default Bean Tigers with Ruby Roots

I have two bean neo white tigers that I adore. They are almost like the bean leave version of the hokages...Thought I'd share with the group. They have not bloomed for me nor do I know of any growers that have...

The first one is the Beni-geshou... This looks like a Homeiden, with the new leave growing out in pure white, but with reddish tinged older leaves with whitish markings intersperse on same leaves! Almost like a mini hokage! A tricky one to grow as they like low light and high humidity around leaves (not roots)... Too wet a medium will make the plant sulk for months...

Observe the white ghost leave on top and ruby tipped roots... The color combo is so striking!

The second one is called Keshomaru, similar to Beni-geshou but narrower leaves, reddish markings and white tigering too. The roots are also pinkish ruby tipped. This one is also a difficult one to grow well... Needs high humidity to keep plant foliage open, which will fold over if less that 65% humidity.. I grow then sometimes with plastic sandwich wrap over them for a couple weeks here and then under lights, then unwrap into shaded sun.

There are others with similar growths and markings like the Kouen... See below pic of my friend

Yes folks, more to add to your wish list! Costs are about $50-100 per growth from Floraculia and Seed Engei

These are beautiful Leslie. These plants' appearance--the variegation in leaf and roots--and the nurture required to stimulate them into such variegation is why I collect these plants. I find myself spending a lot of time and effort, adjusting habitat to get them to develop darker stripes or more variegation or whatever!

YES more plants to add to my wish list.

Thanks Matt and Ms WhiteRabbit! These plants hold their own admirably in the neo world!

I'm posting a few photos of these two topped with the ziplock 'sandwich' plastic bags I mentioned earlier. This is to increase humidity around the fragile leaves and roots. This is good if plant leaves start to shrivel a bit and roots die before they reach past 1 inch. The bags are inverted over plants with the top corner cut off to allow air exchange and the bottom 'zipped' ... Make sure plants are watered and leaves are completely dry before zipping up... I keep them in this under lights until leaves open up, usually 2-4 weeks. When moss is dry I take bags off to water and zip up again the next day when leaves are dry. This is essential or u will rot the new growths!!

Leslie this is an excellent tutorial. Thank you for posting. During this time of year, what is the day time temperature and night time temperature that you care raising your plants?

Most welcome Matt. The temperature range this time of year in my place is 18-20C at night and 23-30C in day.. Plus minus 2-5C range on both ends...
